In this Holy Week, may God bless us with his love and strength, as we trace the steps of our Savior.
God of such unwavering love,
how do I “celebrate” the passion and death of Jesus?
I often want to look the other way and not watch,
not stay with Jesus in his suffering.
Give me the strength to see his love with honesty and compassion
and to feel deeply your own forgiveness and mercy for me.
Help me to understand
how to “celebrate” this week.
I want to be able to bring my weaknesses and imperfections with me
as I journey with Jesus this week, so aware of his love.

That is beautiful. I often find myself overlooking the extent of mercy and forgiveness He has given to me… it’s a massive amount which I certainly don’t deserve. What a wonderful Saviour!
I want to be aware of Holy Week. I think those of us who grew up in Christan homes can become complacent, becoming used to it and taking it for granted. I want to feel the sorrow, and the joy that happen this week.

Hi, Ceil. Thanks for this reminder. We’ve been so caught up in “life” recently that it’s been a challenge to focus on this most wonderful Christian event. A favorite hymn says, “Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?”

Ceil, in small group last night the question was “If you could be present any one day of Jesus life, what would you choose.” My reply—“His crucifixion—so I would totally grasp exactly what He did for me.” Sunday is coming—Praise God!

Ceil: I prefer to use the word “observe” when I go through Holy Week. This evening, I will attend a Seder Meal at church. The attendees will then assemble in the sanctuary and watch a perfomance of a drama about a conversation between the Father and the Son. I wrote the script and with some changes suggested by our pastor and the two actors we will present those gathered in the sanctuary with a slightly different view of what Jesus went through .
A beautiful prayer! How do I celebrate this Holy Week? With thankfulness! My heart is overwhelmed by the love of Jesus. What a gift of love He gave to me. And my prayer is to share that love with others.

I remember even as a child wondering what was so “good” about Good Friday. And I identify with your wondering how best to “celebrate.” Yet without Good Friday there would be no Resurrection Sunday, and no victory over Satan, sin and death. Praise God for His infinite love and willingness to suffer, sacrifice and die for us.
